Requirements to apply for an Iowa Annual Permit to Acquire Pistols or Revolvers

• Must be 21 years of age or older
• Must be a resident of Clayton County
• Will provide a valid ID or drivers license from the Iowa Department of Transportation with a current address
• Fees for processing new permits is $10.00
• A background check will be completed for criminal convictions and/or any outstanding warrants
• There is a 3 day waiting period before a permit will be issued
• If the sheriff approves the permit, the permit will be sent to the applicant
• The permit is only valid in Iowa
• A permit to Acquire is also valid for purchasing long guns
• The permit is only valid for one year from the date of issuance
